Preserving the Threads of Mizo History

Every textile tells a story.

Across the hills of Mizoram, traditional handwoven textiles are more than beautiful fabrics—they are living records of our history, identity, craftsmanship, and culture. Many of these weaves, patterns, and techniques have been passed down through generations, while others are slowly fading from memory.

I’m excited to be working on a project that is very close to my heart: researching the rich history of Mizo textiles and documenting rare weaves from across Mizoram for an upcoming book.

This journey is taking me to communities, artisans, collectors, and elders who continue to preserve the knowledge of traditional weaving. Along the way, I’m collecting photographs, documenting unique motifs and weaving techniques, and uncovering stories behind textiles that have shaped Mizo culture for generations.

The goal is not just to create a book, but to help preserve an important part of our heritage for future generations. By documenting these rare textiles and their stories, we hope to celebrate the skill of Mizo weavers and ensure that this invaluable knowledge is not lost with time.

There is still much to discover, and every conversation reveals another piece of our shared history. I can’t wait to see this project come together and share it with everyone.
